Nokia World 2013 Recalled: Six Devices Revealed, Brand Evolves

Look back at October 22, 2013 - all eyes were on Abu Dhabi as you know, because that’s where Nokia World unfolded and six new devices were waiting for us.

Among them - the Lumia 2520 tablet and the Lumia 1520 phablet. These were the kinds of devices that made you stop and take a closer look I am sure. But that wasn’t all at all. The Lumia 1320 made its debut along with three fresh Asha models.

As always the case with big tech events rumors were swirling. People were whispering about 4 more devices and some mysterious accessories that might appear not so long.

Though most of the speculation focused on a big phablet. At the time microSD slot and a solid 32 GB of storage sounded almost futuristic.

As you know - the story didn’t end there. Let’s talk about how the Nokia brand has changed since then and where it is now in 2026.

In 2014, Microsoft completed the purchase of Nokia's Devices & Services business. The deal price totaled about 5.44 billion euros.

Sale really closed the chapter on Nokia as an independent device maker and unfortunately the familiar Nokia name on phones faded from the shelves forever (maybe).

In 2016, Nokia Technologies decided to license the Nokia brand to HMD Global company for mobile devices for ten years worldwide .

But in a while - 2017, HMD stepped in and brought the Nokia name back to life. This time with Android at its core. Nokia 6 was the first to lead the charge.

Now picking up a Nokia phone, it’s HMD Global behind the scenes, and Android is what you’ll find inside. The brand is still alive and well in many parts of the world. In USA also things have become a bit quieter since 2025 year.

Over the years, there have been other interesting releases too. The unbelievable return of the classic Nokia 3310 in 2017 - that was pure nostalgia and all thanks to HMD.

As for Nokia World, unfortunately it is no longer that big headline-grabbing event as it once was. These days Nokia devices follow HMD Global’s strategy, adapting to each market as needed.
