Entire Xperia Z line and the original 2013 Xperia Z delivered Android Lollipop by Sony in accordance with the company’s 2015 rollout strategy for newer Z-series models.
As a result, Sony expanded the update roadmap to include Android 5.1 for devices that had already received version 5.0 starting in July 2015. But upgrade path ended quickly: the final official software package for the Xperia Z family (firmware 10.7.A.0.228 associated with Android 5.1.1) was released on December 15, 2015, and led us to end of official platform development for the device.
In 2026, the Xperia Z remains on this outdated Android version, staying incompatible with current application and security standards. Even LineageOS, which previously offered official support, now designates the Xperia Z (yuga) as “no longer maintained,” highlighting the device’s obsolescence within the software ecosystem.
